From 24ooo ft ….hight….
One of my strongest ‘before-Christmas’ memories…time in reverse to Anno Domini 1964… will always stay in my memory. Bardufoss Air Port… I was on the ‘Christmas plane’ on my way home after half a year’s work as a teacher in Elvetun school. The Norse Norway Winter was dark and magnificent. Many impressions from twilight hour light in the mid day… followed by darkness for the rest of the day……for a 19 year old ‘southener’ it was overwhelming… as well as the meeting with ‘the North Norwegians’ and other nature phenomenon ….
The plane motors are gearing up…my first flight ever!…now it is just to put your faith in the pilot, he has been around the block before…… take-off is successful…. the plane turns the nose upwardes……my eyes goes to this tiny window….and there it is….the light! The after glow from the fallin sun along the whole firmament … The spectacle is so overwhelming….synet er så, so beyond wordingly beautiful. I say a prayer! ….Darkness takes over again….. 8000 meters above the ocean: I look downwards….and there; tousands of Christmas candles are lit! Far down there people are living…clinging to a narrow coastal line…. and the whole room beyond is the ‘heaven’s deep blue ground’ (from a Christmas carol) The plane on its way south and ever further south…in my memory vision it is like a film……
Now….49 years later I understand it…. this experience was wakening the urge in me to express myself in pictures….the indigo blue ocean with funkling lights from houses with people….on the narrow coastline…. snow clad and light…and then the enormous ocean…. and heavenly sky…..
Silence
velvet
snow
lightshine over mountain
glow on the fjord
northern light over the winter firmament
stars over the wide earth
silence
giving room for reflexion
